Love is an eroded, worn out, misused, contaminated word.
Love is the most important word of all.
Love is the more difficult and more incorrect sibling of empathy.
Love is a verb.
Art and Love is Maija Hirvanen’s performance lecture. How to do and perform love? What is the part of love in art?
Art and Love takes a look at shared and learned conceptions of love and harnesses them into something that quickens the heart. Nature fantasies, the dark side of romantic love, love as an object, love of the unknown and love of art appear in highly charged juxtapositions inside the performance.
Art and Love invites the viewer to go through one’s own areas and limits of love. Speech and physical acts run in parallel in the dramaturgy of the performance.
The version of Art and Love seen at New Performance Turku is a site specific adaptation of a stage work specially made for the festival.
Maija Hirvanen’s solo and group performances have been presented widely in festivals and venues internationally and in Finland. Hirvanen has also participated in a number of international artist laboratories as an invited artist.
Maija’s work has taken place at stages, gallery contexts and site-specific locations. She is interested in performance in it’s broad perspectives and for it’s transformative power. Hirvanen looks at performance as a practice that goes through the layers of our lives, from personal acts to collective ones, from the complexities of identity politics to the presence of the moving body.
