”It’s very obvious that performance art is far from being a marginal art scene”, festival’s artistic co-director Leena Kela sums up. ”Performance art audiences in Turku are already large and expanding annually, thanks to our consistent, powerful and surprising programme. During the past seven operating years New Performance Turku Festival has made Turku an internationally recognized performance art city, and the festival’s nationwide attractiveness is also inevitable. We have been able to develop our activities both locally and internationally – in a very persistent and constructive manner.”
In collaboration with the Arts Promotion Centre Finland, the festival offers also an open call programme FRESH – artistic development and performing opportunity for emerging performance and live artists based in Finland. FRESH-project is targeting performance art professionals who have been operating in the field under 10 years, and the aim is to develop artistic performance processes and present a collection of new, emerging artists. The open call for the FRESH programme will be opened on Friday, March 16th, and will go on until April 16th. More detailed information and application guidelines can be found here.
